How to Create a Digital Vision Board (That Actually Works)

Whether you’re old school and glue magazine ads of Victoria's Secret angels to a piece of bristol board or set your phone background to a quote you can’t stop thinking about, these are all forms of a vision board.

Vision boards represent a goal you’re setting for yourself.

In today’s blog, we’re taking you step by step through how to create a digital vision board. Why? Studies show that 1 in 5 successful entrepreneurs use a vision board. We like those odds.

But before we get into the how it’s crucial to understand the why.

Here’s Why You Need a Vision Board:

Provides Clarity: Even if you think it sounds woo-woo, creating a vision board is really just a visual form of goal setting. It doesn’t have to be any more than that. It forces you to sit down and intentionally think about where you want to be, what you want to have, and how you want to act 1,5,10 years down the road. If it works for Oprah & Reese Witherspoon, it can work for you too.

Forces You to Think Big: Probably the best thing about creating a vision board is the way it creates limitless possibilities. We typically start thinking “that’s impossible” when we reach a certain point in our dreams, but with a vision board the possibilities are endless – want to throw a trip to Italy on there? Do it. Thinking non-stop about that G-Wagon? Throw it on there. Forbes 30 Under 30? Make it happen. There are no rules when it comes to creating a vision board. The sky is the limit.

Allows You To Practice Manifestation: Manifestation is a fancier word for “being the creator of our lives.” When we think of a goal we want to achieve, believe we can achieve it, and take aligned action, that, my friends, is simply manifestation. It’s using your mind to get excited about life's possibilities and begin visualizing what you might want to experience.

Step 1: Get Clear On What You Want

Spend some time daydreaming about your future. Imagine you’re the most energetic, happiest version of yourself. What does that look like? Where do you live? What car do you drive? What do you do every day? These are the questions you should ask yourself and let your imagination do the work. This step is key for figuring out what really matters to YOU.

Tip: Try journaling first to figure out what you want in life. Ask yourself what your values are and go from there.

Step 2: Get On Pinterest

We love using Pinterest as our source of inspiration. With millions of photos out there, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect visual representation of your goals. You can start by downloading images from our boards and then save them to a folder on your laptop.

Step 3: Use Canva

Now that you’ve gathered all the photos, it’s time to make the magic happen. Create a free account on Canva and choose the “Desktop” size (or type in vision board and use a template) and begin bringing your vision board to life. Insert the photos you saved from Pinterest into Canva.

Step 4: Make It Your Screensaver

A major point of a vision board is to be reminded daily of your goals. Put your vision board as your laptop or phone background. Every time you see it you’ll be reminded to show up as the version of yourself that’s accomplished these goals.

Tip: To make sure your vision board regularly catches your eye, use bold, vibrant colors.

The most efficient way to achieve long-term goals is to focus on progress. Because progress gives us the permission slip to make mistakes, it allows us to focus on growth, evolving, and enjoying the present moment. Read our full blog post on how to choose progress over perfection, here.
